Sample Student Portfolio - ʻEleu

My name is 'Eleu Lukey. I am now 14 years old and am an 8th grader at SEEQS. On this home page, you will be reading about the person I am in school, and outside of school. If I were to describe myself in 1 word it would be POSSIBILITIES. The reason I say this is because throughout my life I am discovering so many talents that I have. I am learning about all the different features that will come. At SEEQS, I have also been learning to make better choices that will help me get a better future. Since elementary school, I have loved the sport of football. I have been playing it since I was 7 and hope to play in the NFL. I understand that if I work hard and practice, I may even go to the NFL.

Since I am someone who doesn't like to accept defeat, I work hard to attain my goals. I believe that if I work hard enough, I will get what I want. If I don't, then I need to work harder. During my time at SEEQS, I have discovered a new talent that I have to be able to manage my time well and be consistent in having good grades and enjoying school. Some people look at school and hate it, I try to look at the glass more full and think about how the beginning of my life will set the blueprint for my future. One of the biggest lessons that I have learned at SEEQS is that being smart doesn't mean how much you know. It means how much you pursue to learn. If I can keep wanting to learn, the more I will ask questions and grow my mind. Writing for me is something that is starting to be a part of my life as well. In 8th grade, I wrote a novel that was 13,000 words and 34 pages. It was by far my greatest piece of writing I have ever done. The novel for me was a great example of how I adapted all of my learning from Ms. Ingerson in 6th and 7th grade and applied it all into my novel. When I was with Ms. Ingerson, she taught me ways to have a voice in my writing and taught me several narrative techniques. She was a big factor in showing me that I have writing talent. Now, I look at the world differently. When I see or feel something, I describe it in words inside my head. As if I was narrating my life. I also wish to write a story about my life in the future. This way, I will be able to reflect on the memories I have and the moments that I have lived through.
