Physical Activity

The Power of PLAY!

At SEEQS, we believe in the power of PLAY… for community building, for brain stimulation, and for FUN!

All students (and teachers!) choose a Physical Activity—with offerings from Volleyball to Gardening to Yoga to Ultimate Frisbee—each quarter. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, from 8:30-9:15, that Physical Activity group meets to move their bodies, develop skills, and engage a different part of their brains. Some middle schoolers need this time to help them wake up; others need the time to expend early morning energy and get them excited for the day.

Physical Activity groups can be led by teachers, students, community partners, or a combination of these. Offerings are determined by teacher and student interest as well as available space and equipment.

Our past Physical Activity offerings have included, but are not limited to:

  • Martial Arts

  • Volleyball

  • Yoga

  • Gardening

  • Walking

  • Running

  • Ultimate Frisbee

  • Singing

  • Contemporary Dance

  • Polynesian Dance

  • Pickleball

  • Dodgeball

  • Kickball

  • Capture the Flag

  • Wiffleball

  • Ping Pong

One of the most special parts of Physical Activity is that each class is supervised by the same teachers who teach the core content classes of Math, English, Arts, Science, and Social Studies. This allows students and teachers to connect more authentically outside the traditional classroom format, demonstrating our core value of “getting in it” with students.
