Justin was born and raised on Oʻahu, and attended Punahou School. He has a B.A. in Sound Design and Audio Post-Production from Emerson College in Boston, MA. and an M.S.Ed from the University of Pennsylvania.

Justin’s teaching journey has taken him all over the world, including Honolulu, New Hampshire, and Shanghai. He has spent the majority of his career teaching music, but since returning to Hawaii from China because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has thrown himself whole-heartedly into sustainability, (freshwater) fish-breeding/farming, and outdoor education. In his free time you will usually find him playing- playing music, playing with his chickens, playing video games, or playing volleyball.

"I work at SEEQS because part of my own educational journey involved finding out about opportunities that I could pursue and become passionate about as a learner. As an educator, I learned that there are ways to present these opportunities to students that can encourage them to continue that love of learning and discovery beyond the traditional classroom setting. The added bonus of being a sustainability-focused school in Hawaii presents a unique set of real-world experiences that make it easy to become deeply invested in the teaching and learning we do here at SEEQS."
