Substitute Teacher
SEEQS is hiring substitute teachers for the 2020-2021 school year. Once approved, teachers will be added to the preferred substitute teacher call list.
Qualifications
- Love working with and being mentors and role models for young people
- Are experienced at managing diverse and energetic groups of learners
- Are flexible and open to adjustments and improvements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree
- Use technology proficiently
- Have at least two years experience working with middle school-aged children
- Masters degree and/or significant professional experience in content area
- Three or more years experience teaching at the middle school level
- Valid Hawaii Teaching License in a subject area of instruction
- Experience working with students with special needs
Primary Responsibilities
Substitute Teachers have the responsibility of providing consistency in the absence of primary teachers in implementing our curriculum, maintaining a strong and healthy school culture, and fostering family and community relationships. Specific responsibilities will vary based on coverage needs, but may include:
- Lead a student-centered classroom with an emphasis on inquiry, classroom collaboration, and self-exploration.
- Implement research-based, standards-aligned curriculum that enables students to develop content-specific skills, tools, and knowledge. SEEQS uses the SEPUP middle school science curriculum and the Connected Mathematics Program (CMP3). ELA and Social Studies courses are multi-aged, theme-based courses designed by teachers that use primary source documents.
- Support a project-based, interdisciplinary, multi-age Essential Question of Sustainability course alongside several other teachers with varied content expertise.
- Serve as a mentor/advisor to a group of students in Advisory, which includes supporting student success, health, happiness, and intellectual safety.
- Participate with students in morning Physical Activity.
- Implement classroom, school, and behavior management strategies as necessary that are aligned with SEEQS' philosophy of Community-Building, Reflection, Logical Consequences, and Restorative Justice.
- Be a creative problem-solver during the school day and adapt as new needs arise.

Hiring Process
- Candidates will be invited to the campus for a brief interview and tour of the school to better understand how we operate.
- If candidates and the school mutually agree on a fit, candidate will complete employment paperwork and will be added to the school's substitute teacher call list through Frontline.
Substitute teacher pay rate is the same as used in the Hawaii Department of Education .
